Motorhomes for disabled people

There are a variety of motorhomes available for disabled people. You can either purchase a motorhome specifically designed with mobility in mind, or you can modify and existing regular motorhome. Either way, there should be no reason why life cannot be made easier when taking a holiday with disabled people.

In the second hand market you will be able to find motorhomes that have already been adapted for people in wheelchairs. Mobility extras in motorhomes and caravans for disabled people may include an electric tail lift or ramps for easy wheelchair access into the motorhome. Other additions include seats and bars in the washroom area, furnishing modifications, and bed access.

The Nirvana Disabled Wheelchair Access Motorhome, is designed exclusively for the use of disabled persons and their families. Oasis versions can be built to your specific requirements individually. These can be ordered in manual or automatic and left or right drive. The motorhome can be 2, 4 or 6 berth and you can choose from the following features:

  • Wheelchair accessible washroom,
  • Specially designed toilet,
  • Electric entrance ramp with extra wide access door,
  • Garage for scooter storage,
  • Electrically raised or lowered fixed rear double bed,
  • Internal wheelchair anchor points,
  • Seating groups with rear 3 point seat belts.

Plus all appliance controls and switches are placed at appropriate user heights and the open plan washrooms can be screened off when lounging.

Avondale and Frys Caravans have teamed up to design two different caravans for disabled people. These are the Axcess 55 (2/3 berth), and Axcess 65 (4 berth). Features for wheelchair access include:

  • Entrance ramps
  • Entrance lifts (electric)
  • Washroom chairs
  • Washroom bars
  • Motor mover

Remember
Campsites are obligated to provide access and facilities for people on disabled holidays, but it is always worth checking exactly what the destination has in place beforehand. With caravan holidays for disabled people by the beach, check ahead to see which beaches have disabled access.
