2005 SWIFT CHALLENGER 520

2005 SWIFT CHALLENGER 520

The Basics
This four-berth caravan is superbly well constructed both inside and out. It features the now very popular ‘L’ shaped lounge-seating arrangement that affords flexibility and comfort. All in all, this Swift tourer is extremely well equipped and exceedingly good value.
First Impressions
The 2005 Swift Challenger 520 builds upon the previous model. Fixtures and fittings are of a high standard and the interior is both very attractive and durable. With the quality of the materials used, you should find that the interior maintains its good looks for many years. Externally, the styling is all new with a restyled three-windowed GRP front and a new GRP back panel with high level spoiler and brake lights.
Practicalities
The Challenger 520 is fitted with an AKS 3004 AL-KO stabiliser for 2005 and the hitch features a security clamp. This makes it virtually impossible for anyone to hitch your caravan to their vehicle quickly. It would require a major piece of engineering work to make a quick getaway – a useful item of equipment in these days of soaring caravan thefts.
Swift have thoughtfully placed a light next to the gas cylinder compartment that really helps with changing over your gas supply at night. The Challenger 520 also comes with the option of both mains and 12 volt lighting but, with just two lamps fitted to the front corners, illumination could be better. The mains electrical control panel is readily accessible and found above the exterior door. This is a sensible improvemment on previous models. You’ll also find plenty of power points on board. Truma’s Ultravent blown-air heating warms the caravan’s interior, and hot water is supplied by a gas/ electric boiler manufactured by the same company.
Living Conditions
The interior of the Challenger 520 can best be described as rich and comfortable, yet carried off with considerable style and boldness. The colour scheme of Nordica Red is pleasing to the eye and it blends well with the Korsica Apple wood finish of the cabinets. The seating is comfortable and the wrap-around armrests add to this feeling of comfort and well being. The Challenger 520’s ‘L’ shaped lounge area contains a spacious dining and front seating section with plenty of room to move, and the overall effect is very inviting.
Cooking, Sleeping and Washing
The redesigned kitchen comes well equipped and you’ll find a dual-fuel cooker with 800w electric hot plate featuring three gas burners along with electronic ignition incorporating flame failure protection. In addition there is a 77-litre Electrolux fridge, which has more than enough room for the provision of food for four. One very useful feature is the sliding wire baskets situated in a cupboard under the sink and drainer as well as the towel rail on the fridge door.
The two tables supplied on board, one freestanding stored in it’s own purpose-made storage compartment, are easily large enough to eat from comfortably. The front lounge area converts into a roomy double bed or two singles and the dinette area offers a lower single and upper bunk bed.
The washroom in this model is superb with first class illumination and plenty of shelving. The luxury fitted washroom features a vanity unit and sealed cubicle shower. There’s a sizable compartment for the stowage of other items behind the swinging mirror, with yet more storage space under the large basin. The towel rail is long enough for proper drying and the new shower is excellent. There is a full-length wardrobe and, you will be delighted to see, that the space is generous and tall enough to prevent long hanging items of clothing from touching the floor.
The 2005 Swift Challenger 520 builds on the improvements of last year’s model and with some neat and clever features it makes a strong case for consideration.
