AVONDALE LAND-RANGER 6400 ES
AVONDALE LAND-RANGER 6400 ES
In the upmarket end of the caravan market, the Avondale Land-Ranger 6400 ES provides that feeling of timeless quality and class. As soon as you enter the inviting interior, tastefully finished in wood with a choice of three upholstery fabrics, you immediately get that sense of well-being. This five-berth, centre-washroom model is superbly appointed and equipped throughout and despite the van’s near £20,000 price tag, the quality of the finish and the impressive specification should ensure that the Land-Ranger retains its position as one of the best in its class.
The layout of the Land-Ranger provides lounge seating in either conventional form (ESS) or contemporary L-shaped (ESL), a large and well-equipped kitchen area in the middle along with a versatile washroom and an extensive dinette area at the rear.
On the outside, the Land-Ranger’s appearance is pure Avondale with its classic looks accentuated by a unique one-piece GRP roof and soft barley white paintwork. The look is finished with tasteful Moonraker Blue coach lines and the unmistakeable curved front end sporting the now-familiar wide panoramic window.
What strikes you most when you enter the confines of the Avondale Land-Ranger is the expansive size and appointment of the kitchen area. Compared to other five-berths, it has no equal. If you intend to tour for any considerable length of time and look to cater for yourselves, then you should consider the Land-Ranger with its ingenious use of space and innovative ideas. The space-saver twin-bowl sink, for example, has a neat cover that can double-up as a draining board and when replaced after use, provides for ample worktop space.
The Land-Ranger is fitted with alloy wheels and the latest AKS 2004 stabiliser along with a button-less brake. Inside, the storage space available is more than adequate for five adults. Apart from the many kitchen cupboards, overhead lockers and the wardrobe situated in the centre of the caravan, there is additional space available beneath the slatted stays on the front and rear lounge seats. The eating accommodation in the dinette area allows for a family of five to eat together with enough elbowroom not to compromise the efforts of the cook.
The elegance of the Land-Ranger’s living accommodation creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The sprung upholstery is both luxurious and hardwearing, affording a family of five the ability relax together in comfort. The extensive use of wood throughout the interior of the caravan reinforces the traditional nature of its design and classic appeal, yet the designers have included the modern day features of a stereo radio/CD player along with front and rear 12volt and TV aerial sockets.
Cooking, Sleeping and Washing
The kitchen facilities of the Land-Ranger are its trump card. With extensive work surfaces for a caravan of this size, it allows meals to be prepared with relative ease without reducing the space available for the other occupants of the caravan. All the usual appliances are neatly and unobtrusively accommodated and there are ample power points for all the appliances required to create a gastronomic delight.
The Land-Ranger sleeps five in comfort having one double bed at both the front and rear plus one single bunk also at the rear. With the ESS model you also get the choice of two singles at the front rather than a double. The doubles are supported on slats that are easy to assemble and the upholstered cushions make for a restful, comfortable night’s sleep.
The central washroom makes clever use of space and can be transformed from a rear access corridor into an en-suite washroom and dressing area. The Aqua 2000 water system, though not new, is well trusted and very easy to use.
The Avondale Land-Ranger is an out and out tourer. Its greatest appeal is its quality and style, something not to be underestimated in this world where cheap imitations abound.
