ELNAGH JOXY 6 REVIEW

ELNAGH JOXY 6

The Basics
The Elnagh Joxy 6 motorhome is based on the long-wheelbase Fiat Ducato and powered by Fiat’s excellent 2.8-litre JTD common-rail diesel engine. The Elnagh range is constructed in Italy and imported to the UK market by Don Amott. In appearance, you’ll find nothing too out of the ordinary or particularly striking but overall, the Joxy 6 is pleasingly styled and attractive. There’s certainly no shortage of stowage space and all the mod-cons are present and correct. It’s priced at nearly £32,000.

First Impressions
Motorhomes based on the Fiat Ducato are numerous and with good reason. You’ll like the precise, steady handling and the swift performance from the 2.8-litre engine.

Externally, much of the body of the caravan is made of GRP sandwich, which should prove strong and resilient. Inside, everything looks neat and tidy, and there’s no shortage of wardrobe space. In fact, stowage represents no problem at all, with a variety of cupboards and storage areas, including a ski-type locker situated underneath the floor. The washroom is particularly good and better than that of many motorhomes.

Practicalities
The mains 230v AC System features an automatic battery charger, RCD and MCBs, not to mention the three-pin sockets. You’ll find the control for the 12v DC electrical system next to the entrance with the auxiliary battery situated underneath the driver’s seat. The fresh water level gauge has a pushbutton readout and accurately displays exactly how much supply you have left. The fresh water tank itself holds no fewer than 115-litres - or 25 gallons if, like me, you still use the old Imperial measurements. You will find it under the front dinette seat and the external, lockable filler is easy to access. A constant and steady flow of water is ensured by the use of a powerful self-priming water pump which supplies washbasin tap, showerhead and kitchen mixer tap.
The water is heated by a Trumatic C603E gas/mains boiler unit with a variety of settings when on gas supply. To heat the motorhome’s interior, the ever-popular Trumatic gas-fired boiler unit uses blown-air heating that can be thermostatically controlled. Ventilation is more than adequate with an Omnivent motorised roof vent installed above the kitchen and dinette. There’s also a five-way vent, complete with flyscreen, in the washroom.

Living conditions
Comfortable seating is a little in short supply when ‘camped-up’, with the backrests seemingly a touch too upright, the squabs a bit on the shallow side for some and, for those who might be a little short in the leg, you might be seated a touch too far from the floor. It’s not all that easy moving from the cab to the caravan interior either. All in all, things are a little tight for four people but the Joxy 6 is quite sufficiently spacious for two. The lockers are plentiful, however, and the wardrobe is positively huge. Lighting is generally pretty good but there is one omission in that there’s no mains illumination. The furniture is nicely constructed and should prove durable enough, it all looks attractive and of a decent quality.

Cooking, Sleeping and Washing
Kitchen space isn’t as spacious as some other in this class but every item functions well. It’s situated right in the middle of the caravan, across from the fixed bed and dinette area. You’ll find a three-burner Smev hob along with a grill and oven combination. The stainless steel sink and mixer tap is fine but you won’t find much in the way of food preparation area. As for eating, the table is supported by a wall bracket and a single foldable leg.

As far as beds are concerned, the double berth converts from the dinette, and there is a fixed double bed at the rear of the van. All the beds are comfortable and you should receive a good night’s sleep.

The washroom is placed at the rear, in the nearside corner. The hand basin is of a good size and the non-cling shower curtain actually does work well. You won’t have any trouble in finding storage space for cosmetics and your toiletries, while lighting is good too.
