The Abbey GTS Vogue Basics
Looking at the 2004 Abbey GTS Vogue you get a sense of just how well touring caravans have improved over the last ten-years in both construction and the facilities that they provide. The Abbey GTS Vogue not only looks better and offers modern conveniences that we have become accustomed to in our homes, but they are built so much more robustly, making the prospect of a long life in good working order all the more likely.
The all-new Abbey GTS Vogue 416 model we feature here is a four-berth, end-washroom touring caravan with conventional parallel seating in the lounge area. If you opt for the L-shaped seating arrangement the Abbey GTS Vogue model number becomes 417, otherwise the caravans are essentially identical. The Abbey GTS Vogue 416 has all the features one would expect in a modern touring home including cassette fly screens and blinds to all windows, barbecue point with isolation valve and a new dual fuel gas and mains 800W electric storage water heater.
The major visual change on the Abbey GTS Vogue 2004 model is that, like most other manufacturers, the Abbey caravans are now white. Gone is the traditional cream and bronze of old. The colour scheme does improve the overall look of the vehicle, which to the untrained eye is a full three inches wider than previous models.
First Impressions of the Abbey GTS Vogue
The lounge area in the Abbey GTS Vogue has an extremely sumptuous feel to it. The redesigned furniture is both refined and stylish giving an overall effect of timeless quality. The brushed satin handles with wood inserts are a nice touch. They make using the cupboards and drawers a pleasant experience rather than an uncomfortable one. It is small attentions to detail like this that set the Abbey GTS Vogue range apart from much of the competition.
Practicalities of the Abbey GTS Vogue
The Abbey GTS Vogue 416 features an AL-KO lightweight galvanised steel chassis with Euro –Axle. For security and safety reasons the Abbey GTS Vogue is also fitted with a lockable stabiliser hitch. The new flush fitted aluminium-framed windows are a vast improvement on previous designs and should be an impermeable barrier to water ingress.
Living Conditions in the Abbey GTS Vogue
The Abbey GTS Vogue’s living accommodation is extremely comfortable with sumptuous upholstery and practical armrests although these and the steeply raked front window do restrict the seating space somewhat. The dining table in the Abbey GTS Vogue can be erected easily and quickly affording space for up to 4 adults to eat in comfort. There is additional grazing space in the mid-caravan dinette area that can also seat two. Ample large curved upper lockers for all those pieces of family life that seem to be necessary for an enjoyable time these days feature throughout.
Cooking, Sleeping and Washing
The kitchen area in the Abbey GTS Vogue is well appointed and includes a flush fitting gun metal grey thermostatic oven with grill and pan storage. The Abbey GTS Vogue 2004 model now has installed a new 77-litre ‘7-series’ electronic power refrigerator with a full-width freezer. It also features a recessed stainless steel bowl with pillar tap, removable draining board and chopping board. There is ample storage both overhead and under the work surfaces.
The Abbey GTS Vogue can sleep up to four in comfort. The lounge area can be converted into two single beds or a double, whilst the dinette can be transformed into a double bunk. The foam-filled upholstery in the Abbey GTS Vogue 2004 model ensures that the bunk beds are more than comfortable when the dinette is in the sleeping configuration.
The rear of the Abbey GTS Vogue features a full-size washroom. The facilities consist of the usual amenities such as a Thetford cassette toilet with independent tank and electric flush, a fully enclosed shower, a washbasin and vanity mirror. The clever design of the washroom also allows for a full-length wardrobe to be included.
Abbey’s 2004 GTS Vogue 416 is now up there with the very best in its class. It sets new standards in looks, layout and specification. The competition will have to be smart to stay with it. If you are looking for a four-berth tourer, then the Abbey GTS Vogue 416 should be high on your list of ‘probables’.
